Top tips to stay safe in winter

Stay safe in winter with Henry GatesMany of us don’t look forward to the clocks going back at the end of October – the winter months are fast approaching and the long summer evenings spent BBQ’ing in the garden are long forgotten. The weather is getting colder and the darker evenings make us more conscious of who may be lurking in the dark corners of the street or garden and how to stay safe in winter.

Top tips to stay safe in winter

  1. When you are home, keep doors locked – the wintry weather and noise from fireworks at events such as Halloween, Bonfire Night, Christmas parties and New Years Eve can make it difficult to hear someone walking through the door that shouldn’t be. Check your locks are secure and consider investing in some new ones if you think they could be easily broken.
  2. Did you know that 71% of ex-burglars said they would not attempt to enter an alarmed property when interviewed by Which? Magazine? A statistic difficult to ignore, alarm systems can make you feel safe and secure in your home. We offer tailored alarm systems suitable for all homes and budgets.
  3. Keep a close eye on who may be entering your property with a CCTV system from Henry Gates. All our systems operate well throughout the day and night, as well as in all weather conditions.
  4. When you’ve been on an expensive day out shopping for Christmas presents, take care when taking all the goods into your home as you don’t know who could be watching you. Ensure gifts you have bought are kept out sight of anyone who may be taking a peek through your windows.
  5. Lighting is important outside your home as it will put a potential thief off trying to enter your property. Consider investing in outdoor lighting – anyone attempting to enter your property who shouldn’t be will be in the spotlight and be seen by neighbours and are more likely to try elsewhere.
  6. Close curtains and blinds when it starts to get dark – if a thief can’t see what is on offer in your home, they will not risk entering your property on the off-chance there may be something worth taking.
